The 47-year-old is said to be in a critical but stable condition after hitting a Volkswagen at the Archway Road and Jacksons Lane junction.
A local resident who works at a pub nearby explained the events following the accident: "They closed the road and we saw a dozen police cars. On this end of the street there were three or four police cars and ambulances.
"At first we thought maybe someone had jumped from the bridge again because there was so much traffic.
"Someone who was just passing had came into the pub and said there was an accident.
"No one came in really alarmed. We mostly had regulars come in from the Tube station telling us what happened.
Police and Ambulance crews attended the scene.
No arrests were made.
